Limitations & Maturity Disclosure
This page provides an honest assessment of TrueNorthCareer's current strengths, known limitations, and planned development. Users and evaluators should consider this information when assessing the platform's suitability.
What the Product Does Well Today
TrueNorthCareer is trusted by over 10,000 students and early-career professionals from leading universities — including Imperial College London, University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, LSE, and UCL — and from top-tier professional firms for career mentoring and advice. The following strengths reflect the platform's current capabilities:
- Provides structured, personalised career coaching through the Polaris AI coach, using comprehensive user context (Digital Twin) that generic AI tools do not have.
- Generates ATS-friendly, keyword-optimised CVs and cover letters tailored to specific job descriptions — significantly more relevant than generic templates or standalone AI models.
- Organises career data (history, skills, education, certifications) in a structured format that enables both human review and AI processing.
- Tracks job applications through a clear pipeline with stage-based progression.
- Provides structured self-reflection exercises and mentoring preparation tools that help users articulate their goals and strengths.
- Offers a comprehensive, integrated platform where career tools work together — data entered in one area (e.g., CV Manager) enriches other features (e.g., coaching, document generation).
- Delivers more tailored, context-aware career guidance than any single standalone AI model, because it maintains persistent user context across sessions and features.
- Provides interactive case interview preparation with structured 8-dimension scoring, difficulty progression, and performance tracking over time — enabling users to systematically improve their case skills.
Known Limitations
- AI accuracy: AI-generated content (coaching responses, documents) may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or culturally inappropriate suggestions. All AI outputs should be reviewed by the user before use.
- Language support: The platform's interface and AI coaching are primarily optimised for English. Users communicating in other languages may experience reduced quality.
- Industry specificity: While the platform serves all industries, coaching and document generation may be more effective for common professional roles than for highly specialised or niche fields.
- No outcome guarantees: The platform cannot guarantee job interviews, offers, or career advancement. Outcomes depend on user qualifications, effort, market conditions, and employer decisions.
- Data dependency: The quality of personalisation is directly proportional to the amount and accuracy of data the user provides. Users with minimal profile data will receive less tailored guidance.
- Single-user focus: The platform is designed for individual users managing their own careers. It does not support team-based or organisational career management (except through institutional B2B partnerships for student access).
- Browser-based only: TrueNorthCareer is a web application. There is no native mobile app. The platform is responsive and works on mobile browsers, but the experience is optimised for desktop use.
- Daily coaching limits: Coaching conversations with Polaris reset daily. Users cannot continue the same conversation thread across days, though Digital Twin context persists.
What TrueNorthCareer Does Not Replace
- Human career counsellors or coaches: The platform provides AI-powered guidance, not human professional advice. Users with complex career situations may benefit from combining TrueNorthCareer with human career services.
- Professional CV writers: AI-generated documents are high-quality drafts but may not match the nuance of an experienced human CV writer for senior executive positions.
- Mental health professionals: The wellness tracking feature is for self-monitoring only. It does not provide diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or therapeutic support.
- Job boards or recruitment agencies: TrueNorthCareer does not source job listings, match users to vacancies, or facilitate introductions to employers.
- University career services: The platform complements, but does not replace, institutional career advising, networking events, employer connections, or work placement programmes.

Statement on Over-Reliance
TrueNorthCareer is a career aid, not a career autopilot. Users should treat AI-generated outputs as starting points that require human review, not as final products. Career decisions should be made by the user based on their own judgment, informed by multiple sources of information — of which TrueNorthCareer can be one. The platform is designed to support and structure career thinking, not to replace critical thinking about one's professional future.
